Embraced deeply within the tapestry of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the Miss Black and Gold Pageant holds a special place in our collective hearts. Rooted in our enduring tradition of selecting exemplary young women as community role models, this pageant stands as a testament to our commitment to honor and celebrate their contributions.

The inception of the Miss Black and Gold Pageant dates back to the National Alpha Phi Alpha Convention held in New York City in 1976. It was there that our inaugural Queen, Miss Denise Smith, was crowned, marking the genesis of a cherished tradition. Miss Denise Smith was the Zeta Mu Chapter's very own Miss Black & Old Gold at Georgia State University. By 1982, the pageant had evolved into a national program of Alpha Phi Alpha, becoming a staple at our conferences.

Aligned with our chapter's dedication to educational advancement, the Zeta Mu Chapter proudly sponsors a scholarship for our reigning Queen. Additionally, she earns the prestigious opportunity to compete at the district (state) level, alongside winners from other esteemed colleges and universities.
